Every artist really only has one story to tell and that is the story of himself. Photography is a path to discovery for me as it has been to many photographers. As I walk down the street or hike through a forest I am not purposefully looking for an image to make. I try to let myself become open and receptive. I carry my camera hopefully. Whatever picture I make comes from a place deep down, unfamiliar to me, which reacts to the ever elusive present. Only much later do I have a chance of understanding the light I have captured. Like the light from stars reaching our eyes only after traveling millions of years, allowing just a tiny peek at a single layer of the past, I gaze upon the photograph and hope for understanding.
